A quick teaser for the print that I have created for the ARTCRANK London show on Friday at Look Mum No Hands.
We are proud and very excited to announce that we are sponsoring this years ARTCRANK London on at Look Mum No Hands. We have a limited edition print available as part of the show and we are working up a free collaborative print to accompany the first 200 poster sales.
On the day, we will also be selling issue 6 of Boneshaker Magazine from both our own Boneshaker area and the main poster sales table…. and it will be the FIRST CHANCE TO BUY THE MAGAZINE. We will also have some Boneshaker t-shirts and limited edition musette bags for sale. More details to follow on our involvement in a separate post, but here some more from the guys at ARTCRANK:
Last year, Look Mum No Hands played host to the first-ever ARTCRANK London, a show of bike-inspired poster artwork by UK artists. The show’s opening night party drew crowds that spilled out on to Old Street late into the evening, and sent most of them home with posters. On Friday, August 19, the 2011 edition of ARTCRANK London will return to Look Mum No Hands with a new set of original, limited-edition bike posters.
According to Chris Verbick, who teamed up with ARTCRANK founder Charles Youel to bring the show to London after participating as an artist in the U.S., the connection between bikes and art is no accident. “Graphic artists and designers fell in love with stripped-down bikes long before they became pop culture icons.” While artists often had economic motivations for getting around on two wheels, Verbick says there’s an aesthetic connection as well: “Bicycles are simple, beautiful machines, and riding a bike is like an open invitation to be creative.”
There’s a charitable dimension to the show as well: ARTCRANK has teamed up with The Otesha Project UK to raise awareness and funds for the organization. Otesha uses bicycle tours to bring young people together and teach them about creating social and environmental change through grassroots advocacy. ARTCRANK’s Youel says, “A big part of ARTCRANK’s mission is to support organizations that use cycling to make positive change in the world. We worked with Otesha on last year’s show, and we’re proud to support what they’re doing in the UK.” This year’s ARTCRANK London will feature posters by 24 UK artists, including the graphic talents behind The Ride Journal and boneshaker. The Opening Night Party on Friday, August 19 will include beer and food, as well as giveaways from Yelp London and ARTCRANK London tee shirts by White Duck Screenprint. Admission is free, and all copies of all posters will be available for £30.00 each.
The show will continue at Look Mum No Hands through Friday, September 2
We are proud to announce that we are ‘secondary’ sponsors of the London Open 2011, which is being put on by the London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association in the centre of Hackney Downs, on Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st July (from 10am – 9pm).
This means we will be sponsoring a prize, supporting and promoting the event and also selling copies of Boneshaker, t-shirts and other lovely things too…
Come and watch some of the best international hardcourt bike polo teams compete to be crowned London Open 2011 Champions! The London Open is free to enter and there will be a picnic area provided next to the courts (where food and drink will be available).
We will also be taking photos, chatting to spectators and teams to get a real flavour of the event and Bike Polo as a whole, for a future article in the mag on the wider appeal and history of the sport.
View the latest team lists here. For more info on the event, visit the London Open homepage.

We are pleased to confirm that we have another Boneshaker show, this time at the Coexist Shop in Stokes Croft, Bristol. The guys from the Bristol Bike Project are showing their great photos and illustrations and we have large scale imagery from the first two magazines.
The show is on for three weeks, starting Saturday 18th December, and we will be there from 6-9pm with copies of the magazine for sale, for those that haven’t picked one up yet.
